Gloria Arroyo sensing that media publicity is increasingly focused on 2010 presidential aspirants Manny Villar and Mar Roxas tries to get some piece (makisawsaw) of the action in the hopes to make herself still politically relevant. Speaking before the general assembly of the League of Municipalities in the Philippines, Arroyo appears to throw a dampener on the early postuings of Villar and Roxas.
“Let us do what we can to make these last three years an era of peace, reassurance, and hope. Let us assure our people that we lead with a steady hand to guide the nation. Let us not falter in keeping our hand on the tiller of the ship of state because that ship of state at the end of the day depends on how steady the different municipalities are.”
Arroyo has no business commenting on the activities of Roxas and Villar. Her interest is not affected by the actions of the two considering she is set to step down in 2010, unless of course, she has sinister plans to extend her stay in Malacanang.
The Filipino people are mature enough to understand the dynamics of 2010 elections. There is no point really to be concerned that the political positioning of the two can affect the stability of the country. This is ominous since even ordinary political talk can now be branded as politically destabilizing.
What is clear to the Filipino people that any talk or activity that is not flattering or will not promote the interest of Gloria Arroyo is ordinarily frowned upon.
With all the terrible mistakes and misdeeds of the present government, people are now looking beyond 2010 for hope. They have given up everything under the present regime which dodged every opportunity for public accountability in the impeachment and other congressional queries in the guise of invoking executive privilege. With a stonewalling attitude, there is no hope for the regime to reform itself. Indeed, it is too preoccupied of its daily political survival it totally forgot about genuine and honest governance.
By commenting on the activities of others, Gloria Arroyo lived up her reputation as a publicity hungry personality.
A lame duck she is and a publicity hungry mongrel at that. 2010 seems light years away. I hope someone does her in now.
