Looks like the Filipino electorate can now shop its possible bet for Presidency in 2010. Lets look at the contestants. Noli De Castro (susmaryusep!), Manny Villar, Mar Roxas, Bayani Fernando (sus ginoo!), Dick Gordon, Loren Legarda, Ping Lacson, Sonny Belmonte, Jojo Binay, Gilbert Teodoro, Chiz Escudero and last but definitely not the least, Erap. With the exception of the Binay, Teodoro and Escudero, I can say that the electorate has no choice but the trapos. These are the people who spent most of their lives chasing the dream of becoming the next President of this miserable country.
It’s a waste for the opposition because the best man to succeed GMA is coming from their ranks. However, everyone is drowned by their respective political ambitions that party principles and the genuine crusade for reform take a backseat. Nobody wants to give in. Theres even a danger that the opposition members in the Senate will part ways. The disintegration of the political opposition in the Senate was due to the political ambitions of some particularly Villar and Roxas. The result is that the electorate who voted for an opposition led chamber was frustrated and shortchanged; their ideals relegated to the background to pave the way for the political ambitions of the few.
Is this the kind of leaders who will present themselves to lead us to promise land. GMA is worse enough, but with the kind of presidential material the Filipino voters are presented with, it could be much worse.
Before candidates present themselves, the Filipino people should be given a say who should run and who should not. Otherwise, in a free for all contest, the one emerging winner would never have a clear mandate like Fidel Ramos. Good if the winner would turn out to be another Ramos, who was able to unite the country momentarily by mending fences with opponent and focusing on the development of the country. But what if the winner will turn out to be another buffoon? Are we going to suffer again for another six years? Diyos ko pong mahabagin.
So far, the main choices appear to be unpalatable. Some who have just been elected or re elected as Senator would now present themselves to election to another position. It seems they hadn’t have enough.
I hope these people should realized that the electorate is not amused by their early posturings. Nagmumukha tuloy silang gahaman sa kapangyarihan.
