2nd District Rep. Rufus Rodriguez is sourcing out funds for the construction for the reclamation of Cagayan de Oro’s 10 kilometer premier coastline from barangay Macabalan to barangay Bugo for a four lane coastal road. “It’s a four lane coastal highway that would showcase Cagayan de Oro City as a growing metropolis.” The coastal road is hoped to ease traffic congestion especially on cargo trucks plying the Butuan, bukidnon and the Iligan-Cagayan de Oro City. Rodriguez allayed fears of massive dislocation as he assured no such thing will occur. “We do not intend to dislocate residents and if ever, they will be fairly compensated.” Rodriguez is hopeful that the 10 kilometer road will jumpstart fresh investments that would kick the local economy.

Former Laguindingan Mayor Orville Abellanosa is dead succumbing to liver cancer on September 9, 2008. He was 56. Known as “Boyax Jones” in his days Xavier days, he was a founding member of Alpha Lex Justitia fraternity. Abellanosa served as a member of the Provincial Board from 1998 to 2001 after serving as mayor of Laguindingan for three terms. He was more remembered as the town mayor when the groundworks for the ambitious Laguindingan airport was laid in his hometown. Former Misamis Oriental Board Member Henry Clyde Abbot said, “The province has lost one dedicated and trustworthy public servant whose legacy leaves an imprint in the minds of Misamisnons.”

The Municipal Trial Court Br. 5 of Cagayan de Oro declared Jocelyn O. Guialani as the duly elected barangay chairperson of Taglimao, Cagayan de Oro over Loreto T. Sablada. The recount showed that Guialani got a total number of 260 votes against 231 votes for protestant Loreto T. Sablada in the October 29, 2007 elections. The claim against Guialani that she committed massive fraud and irregularity was not true as her one vote lead turned into a 29 vote lead after the recount. She will no longer pursue her case for damages for the sake of the unity of the barangay.

Also, the same court branch declared Roy Yanez as the duly elected chairperson of Tuburan after Yanez filed a protest against the declared winner Eleno Tolentino. Yanez claimed that some ballots were misread, misadjudicated and misappreciated by the election tellers. Judge Sabanal said that after thoroughly examining the ballots and objections submitted by both parties Yanez came out with a plurality votes of 221 against Tolentino’s 190.
