Butuan City
Candidates for Mayor are Daisy Plaza of Lakas Kampi against Ferdinand Amante of the Liberal Party. Running for Vice Mayor are incumbent Vice Mayor Dino Claudio Sanchez of Lakas Kampi and Atty. Lawrence Fortun of the Liberal Party. Whats interesting is that the councilor slate for the Liberal Party includes stalwarts like Ryan Anthony Culima, Bombo Radyo announcer and incumbent Councilor Erwin Dano, former Vice Mayor Angie Calo and ex councilor Dodo Cembrano. Lakas Kampi is composed mostly of incumbent councilors.
For the Congressional seat for Butuan-Las Nieves, it will be a rematch between incumbent Rep. Joboy Aquino of Lakas and Atty. Jijil Jimenez of the Liberal Party.
In Agusan del Norte, the Amantes virtually run unopposed as of this writing. Governor Erlpe John Amante is opposed by an independent candidate while Angel Amante, who will take over the seat of his father, Rep. Edelmiro Amante, has no opponent so far. I will verify on this later.
Surigao del Norte
It will be another family affair in Surigao del Norte, this time the head on collision is finally happening.
For Governor, archrivals Governor Ace Barbers of Nacionalista Party will be facing former DepEd Region 8 Director Sol Matugas of Lakas . Running with Barbers is Vice Governor Noel Plaza Catre who will face Board Member Arturo Carlos Egay Jr., son of Gigaquit Mayor Arturo Carlos Egay Sr.
For the 1st District, it will be Matugas versus Navarro as incumbent Rep. Francisco “Lalo” Matugas, is challenged by Constantino “Banjo” Navarro III of NP, the son of Surigao del Norte patriarch, Constantino “Oguing” Navarro Sr.
In the 2nd District, it will be another exciting match as incumbent Rep. Guillermo “Jun” Romarate of Lakas will be facing a tough opposition in Surigao City Mayor Alfonso “Pons” Casurra of NP.
For Surigao City Mayor, its a 4 cornered fight between former Governor Robert Lyndon Barbers of NP, Ernesto “Nitoy” Matugas of Lakas, Vice Mayor Rico Salvador “Cocoy” Sering of LP and Atty. Dokdok Arriba of PMP. The Vice Mayoralty candidates are Melba Garcia of NP, Danilo Menor of Lakas and Alicia Ensomo-Gonzaga as Independent candidate.

I don’t understand the politics in our country. If this will continue and no statute passed prohibiting “dynasty”, na ambot na lang sa langaw itom pa sa ata sa nokos or kugita or itom pa sa alkitran ang ugma sa atong nasud. Makalolooy mi nga mga batan-on…………
Lets stop being blind, deaf and mute in Butuan City. This is now the right time to participate for a real change. We need to change, for progress, prosperity and future for all the people of Butuan City and not only for the chosen corrupt individuals who kept on enriching themselves at the expense of the people. Be aware of the move of the incumbent officials impending 1 Billion loan, for what? Just to stay in power? Lets start now for a change, Kung dili karon, Kanus a? Kung dili kita, Kinsa?
the last elections saw the Amante camp buying votes at 1500 to 2000 per voter. I cannot understand what change and reformation the Amante camp is talking when they themselves are as corrupt as the incumbents…or much worse.
if the “opposition” in the city say change and progress….well who’s talking? Look at their Agusan del Norte bailiwick. On the bottomline, these fake oppositions are only in name but in principle, they are as filthy as the other side.
if its genuine change and reform they really want to introduce, why not start first from their own ranks? This supposed “opposition” group need to present a doable and realistic plans and solutions for the people and not on plain rhetorics and motherhood statements. They at the least exorcise their group with traditional politicos starting with their Amante political godfather.
danilo menor kita! maayo, buotang nga tawo.
